List My 5: A further Update

Back in mid April 2011 I opened an account with the site, List My 5.

The site offers a means of earning cash for publishers of lists, each list appears with ads provided by Google AdSense. A month ago I posted the first update, and promised to take a further look after May had passed.

This is my updated assessment.

I produced 10 lists during April. Two of the lists were produced using SEO suggestions and a third list as control with no research into keywords , the lists were Uses for hard boiled eggs (that days hot search topic), The European Robin Redbreast (suggested by a user who claimed searches which included the tag word breast returned more visitors) and Five inventions that changed the World (control with no SEO).

Initial results after about three weeks showed little difference in views. The full result appears in List My 5 Update, link below.

 The first conclusion one can gain is that these lists are pretty poor at obtaining revenue. Non of the income gained was from these lists, infact all income came from older lists from late April 2011. The views for those lists are only slightly different from these lists so volume of views doesn't seem to matter one might assume that the readers on those lists found an item of interest.

There also seems little increased traffic for SEO planning. The Inventions which changed the world list has a greater number of views but was not planned for SEO or keywords.

The European Robin did use the keyword BREAST but there was no significant difference in its viewing numbers from either the control nor the other older lists.

The hard boiled egg list was based on the hot topic of the day on Google AdWords and so it did as I would expaect and came in lower in views as that source is lagging behind the search figures, it tells you what has been and not what will be.

For later use I might look at those keywords not at the  top of keyword lists but those lower down the list, maybe watch over several days for those that are consistantly in the lists not there and gone.

Third Conclusion is that time counts with List My 5 just as with publishing spots like HubPages. I enjoyed making the lists and it is fun seeing them bear a small but not insignificant fruit. I will continue to increase my list numbers and it could provide a small income stream. It is not a get rich quick scheme, it is a drip scheme. Lots of little drips make a lake. So fine by me.

Be prepared for payoff taking a little time but I am sure it will pay-off.

 There are two factors that irritate me a little with List My 5.

• There is no means to find out where your viewers are coming from. It would be nice if I could get some background stats other than which list has made some cash.
• There is no edit feature. Once a list is made and posted, that is it. You can't change grammar nor spelling mistakes. The only recourse is to make another list which is then a waste of time.

 List My 5 is preparing to add a new feature. Listers will be able to write "How to's" as well as write lists in the near future.

This will benefit people who enjoy writing longer pieces giving information.

It will be interesting to follow through the changes.
